Fight Fred Phelps

and his kooky cult too. For those of you unfamiliar, Phelps is the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church who leads anti-gay protests at military funerals. My understanding of Phelps position is that God is punishing us with dead soldiers because we have become too tolerant of homosexuality.

One of the funerals his group protested at was for fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder who died in Al Anbar province Iraq on March 3, 2006; at only 20 years of age. Snyder's father, Albert Snyder, sued. He recently lost on appeal although the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case in October.

However, in the interim, Albert Snyder has been ordered to reimburse the protesters' appellate fees

The two-page decision supplied by attorneys for Albert Snyder of York, Pa., offered no details on how the court came to its decision.

On Friday, Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ordered Snyder to pay $16,510 to Fred Phelps. Phelps is the leader of Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church, which conducted protests at Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder's funeral in 2006.

Attorneys also said Snyder is struggling to come up with fees associated with filing a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jim Geraghty lists 33 Obama statements that he charitably characterizes as statements that have reached their expiration date. Or as I see it, 33 willful misstatements by that skinny, lying bastard that occupies the Oval Office. Jim's list is pretty good so read the whole thing. But here's a little taste:

HEALTH CARE MANDATES

STATEMENT: “We've got a philosophical difference, which we've debated repeatedly, and that is that Senator Clinton believes the only way to achieve universal health care is to force everybody to purchase it. And my belief is, the reason that people don't have it is not because they don't want it but because they can't afford it.” Barack Obama, speaking at a Democratic presidential debate, February 21, 2008.

EXPIRATION DATE: On March 23, 2010, Obama signed the individual mandate into law.

HEALTH CARE NEGOTIATIONS ON C-SPAN

STATEMENT: “These negotiations will be on C-SPAN, and so the public will be part of the conversation and will see the decisions that are being made.” January 20, 2008, and seven other times.

EXPIRATION DATE: Throughout the summer, fall, and winter of 2009 and 2010; when John McCain asked about it during the health care summit February 26, Obama dismissed the issue by declaring, “the campaign is over, John.”

RAISING TAXES

STATEMENT: “No family making less than $250,000 will see any form of tax increase.” (multiple times on the campaign trail)

EXPIRATION DATE: Broken multiple times, including the raised taxes on tobacco, a new tax on indoor tanning salons, but most prominently on February 11, 2010: “President Barack Obama said he is “agnostic” about raising taxes on households making less than $250,000 as part of a broad effort to rein in the budget deficit.”

He's averaging over two a month. That's not just having facts on the ground change or naivete about the difference between campaigning and knowing what can be accomplished; although, in fairness, that may be true for one or two. But this many, this fast, shows that he was simply making shit up as he went along to get elected.

I know to many this is not a surprise. But we are not stuck with results of the election. At least until January.

As sure as the sun rises in the east, we now get "news" that premiums for health young people will increase -- by as much as 17% !!

Doesn't look like he's bending the cost curve down.

Obama to Israel: Drop Dead

More "smart diplomacy":

For a head of government to visit the White House and not pose for photographers is rare. For a key ally to be left to his own devices while the President withdraws to have dinner in private was, until this week, unheard of. Yet that is how Binyamin Netanyahu was treated by President Obama on Tuesday night, according to Israeli reports on a trip viewed in Jerusalem as a humiliation.

After failing to extract a written promise of concessions on settlements, Mr Obama walked out of his meeting with Mr Netanyahu but invited him to stay at the White House, consult with advisers and “let me know if there is anything new”, a US congressman, who spoke to the Prime Minister, said.

“It was awful,” the congressman said. One Israeli newspaper called the meeting “a hazing in stages”, poisoned by such mistrust that the Israeli delegation eventually left rather than risk being eavesdropped on a White House telephone line. Another said that the Prime Minister had received “the treatment reserved for the President of Equatorial Guinea”.

What is the basis for this pathological need to continuously insult our staunchest allies?? I can almost understand his position with our enemies; I don't agree with it but I understand it. He is like the kid who ate paste in kindergarten; if I'm nice to them maybe they will stop picking on me and taking my lunch money.

I frankly don't know. Maybe it is just a natural progression from the position above; i.e. trash our allies to curry favor with our enemies?? In any event, it does not project a position of strength. Something Iran, Korea and good ol' Vlad Putin have already figured out.

Because of other demands (a trial that has now gone longer than a month) I never did post my NCAA brackets. But I picked Kansas. I also had 'Nova in the Final Four. Safe to say I will not be winning.

Bubba mocks Gore on global warming

Clearly no love lost between these two. Clinton spoke at the Gridiron Dinner; an event not football-related but rather a self-congratulatory love fest for the dinosaur media. Bill noted the first day of Spring thusly:

Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted he was speaking on the night before the start of spring, “otherwise known to Al Gore as proof of global warming.”

As always, Bill couldn't help telling everyone how wonderful he is:

“My only regret in creating 23 million new jobs is that two million of those jobs were for right-wing pundits.”

The fact that this ass-hat was impeached for conspiracy to accept bribes as a federal court judge, by a Democrat controlled House, and is now on the Rules Committee, speaks volumes about the modern Democrat Party.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a two-vehicle crash Tuesday at Mile Marker 21 on Cudjoe Key was caused by a 37-year-old woman driver who was shaving her bikini area while her ex-husband took the wheel from the passenger seat.

While that sounds a little strange, it gets even weirder:
