President Obama continues to try to make the world like us more through the sheer force of his personality. In the latest example of "smart diplomacy" he pens a letter to Jacques Chirac pledging "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world."
For those of you, like Obama, who don't really pay attention to the French (although who in his/her right mind would?) Chirac is the former French President. The current President, Nicolas Sarkozy is less than amused.
Isn't there anyone at State who could have told him who is in office? Does he consult any staff or just execute foreign policy on a whim? Did somebody rig his teleprompter?
