Christie wins in NJ

Chris Christie won yesterday's gubernatorial primary and will face John Corzine in the general election this fall. I confess to being disappointed as I voted for Steve Lonegan. Christie is much closer to Christine Whitman than Ronald Reagan

Nevertheless, I would urge fellow Lonegan supporters to take a day or two to lick their wounds and then rally around Christie as he is clearly a better choice then a second Corzine term. Let's just hope Christie doesn't decide to go the "mainstream" route of other northeast Republicans and abandon conservatives to emphasize his moderate bona fides -- how did that work out for you John McCain ?

For some background, The Tax Foundation has the grisly details:
New Jersey's State/Local Tax Burden Highest in Nation
Estimated at 11.8% of income, New Jersey's state/local tax burden percentage is the highest in the country, well above the national average of 9.7%. New Jersey taxpayers pay $6,610 per capita in state and local taxes.

New Jersey's 2009 Business Tax Climate Ranks 50th
New Jersey ranks 50th in the Tax Foundation's State Business Tax Climate Index. The Index compares the states in five areas of taxation that impact business: corporate taxes; individual income taxes; sales taxes; unemployment insurance taxes; and taxes on property, including residential and commercial property. Neighboring states ranked as follows: New York (49th), Pennsylvania (28th) and Delaware (10th).
And this is after Coorzine ran as a tax-cutter:
