Senate Democrats passed a landmark health care bill in a climactic Christmas Eve vote that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in the country's history.
"We are now finally poised to deliver on the promise of real, meaningful health insurance reform that will bring additional security and stability to the American people," Obama said shortly after the Senate acted.
"This will be the most important piece of social legislation since Social Security passed in the 1930s," said Obama
Since Social Security eh ??? Well look how well that's worked.
Unfortunately, the bottom-line is that no matter what form the final bill takes, America has been fundamentally altered. Now that government can control our health care we are all wards of the state.
And, also unfortunately, it will pass. Because at the end of the day, the liberals know this bill isn't about public options, abortion, death panels or insurance mandates; it's about infrastructure. And they have now laid the foundation for a government-run single payer system.
They can, and probably will, get frustrated with the rate of implementation. But the government owns health care now. And by doing so they own me and you.
With over one hundred committees created and usage of the word "shall" that makes it look like the secret word for "You Bet Your Life" we are headed into dark times. We will never be able to remove all of the tentacles of this bill.
